His social platform is being investigated for failures to curb illegal content.
On Monday, the French Prosecutor’s Office reported that billionaire Elon Musk failed to appear in Paris court, where he was summoned as part of an investigation into potential legal violations related to content published on his social network, X.

Opened in January 2025, the judicial investigation is examining charges of complicity in the possession and distribution of child pornography, as well as X’s use of artificial intelligence to create sexual deepfakes without consent.
The Prosecutor’s Office noted that other countries are also investigating X for similar suspicions. French documents have been sent to the Justice Ministry, prosecutors in California and New York, and various European prosecutors’ offices.
X executives and employees were summoned to testify before the police, but none appeared. The Prosecutor’s Office emphasized that the investigation continues regardless of Musk’s absence.
Musk was required to appear under the “free hearing” format, a French procedure that allows for testimony without initial charges, although with the possibility of arrest. However, the tycoon disregarded the summons, escalating tensions with the justice system.
In March, Musk insulted French magistrates, calling them “mentally retarded,” following a court-ordered search of X’s Paris headquarters in February. The company denied any wrongdoing and alleged political motivations.
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) criticized the French initiative, accusing it of dragging the country into a “politically motivated” criminal case and attempting to regulate X’s business activities.
